CUBS Report...

THE GOOD

RF Milton Bradley (right groin strain) left the April 12 game and didn’t start April 13-27, though he appeared several times as a pinch hitter. He was back in the lineup April 28.

Through the weekend series at St. Louis, Cubs starting pitchers already had turned in 11 quality starts for the season. With the offense struggling, the Cubs were only 5-6 in those games, with the starters having an ERA of 2.62

THE BAD

1B Derrek Lee (neck spasms) left the April 26 game and did not play April 27. He hopes to be available for pinch-hitting duty on April 28.

3B Aramis Ramirez (left calf soreness) left the April 24 game, and he didn’t play April 25-27. He is day-to-day.

RHP Carlos Marmol (strained left leg muscle) left the April 24 game, and he didn’t pitch April 25-27. He is day-to-day.

THE UGLY

Today, Cubs won for only the second time in seven games.

Geovany Soto continues to struggle, both at the plate and behind it. Soto was 0-for-3, and he’s 2-for-13 on the road trip. Soto’s season average dropped to .119

Water Dog goes in the Lake first time in his life...

This is Sam, He is an 18 months old golden doodle (mix of golden retriever and a poodle).

These are his first steps in the Lake, to get the stick.

After a few more tries, he gets braver and dipper in to the water.

He actually tries to shake himself off while he's still in the water; slips, and gets all wet!...

Twelfth Night Review...

We went to see the Twelfth Night on Saturday at Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pear...

Twelfth Night is a comedy about "Viola and her twin, Sebastian, who are shipwrecked off the coast of Illyria, where Viola is washed ashore alone. Disguised as a young male page, "Cesario" enters the service of Count Orsino, with whom she falls secretly in love. Orsino is captivated by the Countess Olivia, who wants nothing to do with Orsino or any other man throughout her seven years of mourning—until she sees the young page, sent to woo her on Orsino's behalf. Olivia's household, under the rigid control of her moralistic steward Malvolio, is busy subverting Malvolio's rule and plotting their revenge upon him: a forged letter from Olivia, pronouncing her love for him. Malvolio swallows the bait, courting his bewildered mistress as his adversaries look on in delight. Viola's twin arrives in Illyria, where he is mistaken for "Cesario" and consents to Olivia's proposal of marriage. Almost all is set aright when Viola and Sebastian finally set eyes on one another, except for Malvolio, who vows revenge..."

Overall it was a great performance. Most of the actors as they say: "had incredible stage presence", which probably means they were really good actors. The story line was pretty easy to follow even though, I had a hard time understanding Shakespearean script. It's like watching an Irish or a Scottish film... As it starts you cant understand the strange dialect. But eventually as the time passes, you begin to get it although by that time the movie is over. The same thing in this case, someone who always had trouble with Shakespeare, I wonder if it would have been easier to translate it in to regular English. The fact that the language was authentic wasn't impressive. I mean, its not like I was there 300 years ago, and I wanted to feel that way again. What I did want, was to understand what the story was about from the very moment it started. I wanted to laugh at every joke, get upset at every tragedy...

The most amusing thing was swimming pool in the middle of the set that was used in every scene. The actors set in it, they jumped into it (and splashed the audience), they socialize in the swimming pool in every scene. It was definitely one of a kind experience.

I'd give it 7 out 10.

Monsters vs Aliens Review...

We went to see the movie Monsters vs Aliens on Friday, and other then a few great laughs from B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) and a couple of action sequences the movie was generally disappointing -- a 5.5 star (1-10 scale). This was partially because the movie's main character was Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon), the film was about her, her becoming a monster, and her fiance.

On her wedding day, she is hit by a meteorite infused with Quantonium, a rare and powerful element that causes her to grow to an enormous size. The film just had too many conversations about "nothing", too many sub plots. It seemed there were only two reasons for this: to drag the movie and to bore the hell out of the audience.

There were a few bright spots like B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) (mentioned earlier), alien overlord Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson), & President Hathaway (Stephen Colbert), who actually stole the show. Unfortunately the show wasn't that good; and it didn't matter how big your 3D glasses were!...

They're back!...

Cubs beat Houston on Monday! Their first game of the season...

... This happens at the end of every baseball season -- you get so frustrated when they choke again for the Nth time:

  • I didn't want to hear their sad stories or their excuses.
  • I threw all Cubs hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts souvenirs, etc in the deepest darkest corner of the closet.
  • I told my kids, I don't want to hear that name in the house again.
  • I told everyone, I am going to be a Red Sox fan.
But come every April, I can't wait for the season to start again; and hope this will be the year...
I guess this is what being a Diehard Cubs fan is all about! It is pure torture!
